I would like to thank Mr. Calkins of Calkins Properties Inc. for being very understanding and very easy to get along with. 4 months ago I received a rent increase notice. It stated because of the rise in costs of property they were going to increase my rent by $700.00. I was paying 1300.00 a month and that was pretty tough making ends meet as I am a single mother with 2 kids a cat and a dog. When I started calling around for a more affordable place i got knowhere. There was nothing in my price range and animals just make it harder to rent. I got the Calgary sun saturday morning and seen a new ad for a property in martindale for 1450.00 a month, pets were allowed as well. It was 9:30 saturday morning and I called it up and there was already 12 people that wanted to look at the house. Mr. Calkins said his first appointment wasn't until 1:00 pm and he stated that if I was willing to pay a 500.00 deposit without looking at it I could have the house.I agreed to that as I was between a rock and a hard place and we agreed to meet there right away. Well either Mr Calkins was out of his mind for renting it at that price or he was very kind. After everything was signed , I realized Mr. Calkin has a big heart. I had the money for damage deposit and a pet deposit if needed but my budget would have very tight throughout Christmas. Well anyways when I was counting the money out I was explaining to him my situation briefly and when i was done counting I gave him the damage deposit first months rent and a pet deposit. What he did next really shocked me he counted the money gave me back my damage deposit and said, "don't worry about the pet deposit I have Three dogs myself and i understand how hard it is especially being a single mother with 2 kids. Then he asked me how much I could afford a month for the damage deposit I told him a $100.00 and right away he said that's fine.So we agreed and we parted ways he then stopped for a second and he asked me if the boys wanted some toys that a previous tenant left behind and I dind't say anything right away but the boys kept saying ya mom yes mom please so i agreed.. and he left and came back the next day to drop the toys off. Now he left me with the feeling that I was taking advantage of his genorosity but as i got to know Mr Calkins I learned he has a big heart and a soft spot for animals.Anyways I just thought that people need to know about good deeds like this that make the world a warmer place. So I want to personally thank you and say thanks for my whole faimly.We need more kindess in the world like the kindness of Mr Calkins.
